How did you get started with bodybuilding?
I was always a three sport athlete in highschool but i was also a late bloomer so when I finished growing height wise. I decided to start hitting the weights as hard as possible with my new found source of natural pubescent testosterone. Took about 4 months before I was noticeably gaining weight and mass in my arms. I went from 114lbs at 16 years old to 154lbs in two years. 3 years in, I quit for 9 months. Than when I came home from college I picked the weights back up and really tightened the grip on my fitness.
What gets you motivated?
My motivation is to be as strong as naturally possible. I never thought I would ever be a bodybuilder because I refused to take steroids. 4 years of strength training and powerlifting sculpted my physique and I got lots of encouragement from people in the business.
Now I want to help other people deal with all their fitness issues through natural means. I also wouldn’t mind winning a few more contests.
What workout routine has worked best for you?
I do something called priority training. This is working your weak points more often than your strong points. This way you are always proportionate and the benefits of disciplining yourself into doing the most hated exercises of your routine has gotten me past many mental and physical barriers I faced along the way. Right now I workout 6-7 days a week. I didn’t start out this way but I feel I have the right split to where I am not over training.

I eat healthy natural foods. Lots of steak, chicken, turkey, eggs, bacon, and tuna for my protein sources. As low sugar as possible. I eat vegetables and whole grains to get my complex carbs and fruits for my simple carbs. I time everything I eat during the day with a purpose. 5-6 meals a day.

They say that the pre and post-workout meals are the most vital meals for the day, what do yours consist of?
My preworkout is just a banana and a VPX Pump7. I lift first thing in the morning. But the night before I eat oatmeal and eggs or oatmeal and protein powder. 80% through my workout I drink MetRX RTD 43g protein shake. After I workout I go home and cook a steak or chicken with some raw vegetables or sweet potatoes.
When trying to cut down do you prefer to use HIIT or just normal cardio?
Definitely HIIT. Before my contest the only real change in my diet and workout is an extra 40 mins a day on the bike at a 155-170 heart rate. I take a fat burner a month before my show and start cycling my carbs.
What is your supplementation like?
I use Optimum Nutrition Protein Powder, VPX pump7, and matrx rtd 43g protein shake. I like all these products because they have worked well for me. My diets and workouts are way more important and have really gotten me to where I am today.
Favourite Bodybuilders?
I would say Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane. Arnold for his huge chest and biceps. Zane for his wide back and posing. I use a lot of Zane’s techniques.
